Offer description

Description Oxford Nanopore Technologies: Our goal is to bring the widest benefits to society through enabling the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere. The company has developed a new generation of nanopore-based sensing technology for faster, information rich, accessible and affordable molecular analysis. The first application is DNA/RNA sequencing, and the technology is in development for the analysis of other types of molecules including proteins. The technology is used to understand and characterise the biology of humans and diseases such as cancer, plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, and whole environments. With a thriving culture of ambition and strong innovation goals, Oxford Nanopore is a UK headquartered company with global operations and customers in more than 125 countries. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Sample Technologies Development Team as a Development Scientist. The Details This exciting and challenging role is responsible for improving, developing, and creating sequencing kits and/or end-to-end workflows for the Oxford Nanopore sequencing platforms. Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis, in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere! Reporting to the Principal Development Scientist, we are looking for a Development Scientist to join our Sample Technology team. The role involves developing and delivering novel applications, protocols, and workflows to our growing customer base. The successful candidate will create, develop, and test DNA and RNA library preparation methods compatible with our pioneering sequencing devices, such as the MinION and PromethION, facilitating optimal downstream analysis for sample-to-answer workflows. The job holder will become an authority on DNA and RNA library preparation techniques for nanopore sequencing. Tasks will include: Develop DNA and RNA library preparation methods. Comprehend and interpret results. Generate data to showcase the performance of library preparation methods. Communicate and liaise effectively with key stakeholders to transfer methods across teams (this includes the writing of protocols for publication). Be proficient with basic sequence data analysis packages, to enter, analyse and manipulate data, to organise files and communicate work. Attendance and presenting at Oxford Nanopore events (such as London Calling). What We're Looking For A PhD in life sciences (or BSc/MSc in life sciences with several years of relevant industry experience). Skills in the manipulation of nucleic acids (both DNA and RNA). Experience with a wide variety of molecular biology techniques and methods. Experience in library preparation for DNA and RNA sequencing is desirable. Familiarity with basic bioinformatic analysis would be beneficial (e.g. bash, conda). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience interacting within a multi-disciplinary team and cross-functional collaboration. Excellent attention to detail, good record keeping, and a high level of organisation. Growth in the role is encouraged; a passion for continuous learning and development is essential. Applications are encouraged from highly motivated individuals with the tenacity required to take on new challenges, are quickly adaptable in an exciting and fast-paced environment, and thrive in a dynamic setting. We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment. If you are looking to utilise your skills to really make a difference to humankind, then consider joining our team and apply today!
