Overview
This post is for a physiotherapist with an interest in inpatient care to expand clinical skills and leadership of a busy, responsive service, with a focus on promoting excellent care to support patient outcomes. The role provides a high standard of evidence‑based physiotherapy input to patients on the respiratory pathway at NUH. This is a developing area with opportunities for service development.
The role includes leading day‑to‑day patient‑facing work, promoting a supportive teaching environment for team members, undertaking annual appraisals, and managing health and wellbeing. You will contribute to the education and training of Band 6, Band 5, students, preceptees and therapy assistant staff, including upskilling new staff for weekend and respiratory rosters when required. The role involves participation in weekend and out‑of‑hours respiratory service at City Campus of NUH, which covers Respiratory Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Cardiothoracic surgery, General Surgery and Critical Care. You will work with wider inpatient team leads to support management, development and delivery of this out‑of‑hours service. You will model and promote NUH values and behaviours in all aspects of the role.

Responsibilities
* Lead the day‑to‑day management of patient‑facing physiotherapy work within the respiratory pathway and respiratory wards.
* Lead and participate in service development, education, training, and supervision of staff and students (Band 6, Band 5, preceptees and therapy assistants).
* Provide direct patient care and contribute to service development, support, and training for other team members and students.
* participate in weekend and out‑of‑hours respiratory service at City Campus, in collaboration with other inpatient team leads.
* Engage in and promote a supportive teaching environment, undertake annual appraisals, and manage health and wellbeing of staff.
* Collaborate with wider multidisciplinary teams across Medical Inpatient services and other areas as required (Renal, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Palliative Care).
Qualifications and Experience
* Broad skill set suitable for acute inpatient settings with experience managing long‑term respiratory conditions and acutely unwell patients.
* Evidence of leadership and ability to work flexibly across areas within NUH City Campus.
* HCPC registered physiotherapist with ability to work within Respiratory Assessment Unit and respiratory wards.

We are a friendly, welcoming team working across 17 medical wards at City Hospital, with emphasis on personal development and positive staff experience. We operate within multidisciplinary specialties including Renal, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Oncology and Palliative Care; experience in these areas and neurological rehabilitation is desirable. The successful candidate will work flexibly across these areas as required. You will work alongside established Band 7s within the Medical Inpatient team at NUH’s City Campus.
Additional Information
* Core hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00–16:00. Flexible working will be considered.
* Additional duties include on‑call and weekend work, and a respiratory late shift (1–9 PM); these duties are approximately 1–2 per month.
