Learning Support Assistant – Maidenhead – Education and Training
Supporting Children with Profound Needs (Autism, PDA & Trauma)
Start Date: 10th and 17th November 2025
Full-time – Term Time Only
£101.40 per day – Monday–Friday – 8:30am – 3:45pm
Are you empathetic, calm, and resilient — someone who believes every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and valued, no matter how complex their needs?
Do you aspire to a career in Youth Justice, Probation, Social Care, Psychology, or SEN Support and want meaningful frontline experience that makes a genuine difference to children’s lives?
This role is based in a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) primary school in Maidenhead, working with pupils who have profound and complex needs, including Autism, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), attachment difficulties, and trauma-related behaviours.
The children you support may find everyday expectations overwhelming and may show avoidance or challenging behaviours linked to anxiety or past trauma. Your role is to help them feel safe, regulate emotions, and re-engage with learning — always through connection, empathy, and understanding.
Your Learning Support Assistant – Maidenhead Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will help children build stability, belonging, and trust in education. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Building safe, trusting relationships with pupils who may initially struggle with connection or engagement.
2. Using low-arousal, trauma-informed strategies to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety.
3. Providing 1:1 and small-group support, prioritising communication, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing.
4. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure individual needs are met.
5. Supporting children who show avoidance, withdrawal, or dysregulation — understanding behaviours as communication, not defiance.
6. Modelling calmness, empathy, patience, and consistency, celebrating progress no matter how small.
Who We’re Looking For
7. Graduates or aspiring professionals in Psychology, Criminology, Youth & Community Work, Education, or related fields.
8. Individuals with emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience.
9. A calm, reflective person who can remain regulated during moments of distress.
10. Someone who believes in trauma recovery, relational practice, and child-centred support.
11. Previous experience in SEN, youth work, care, or behaviour support is beneficial — but not essential (full training provided).
Why This Role?
12. Gain exceptional hands-on experience supporting children with complex needs.
13. Ideal for those pursuing careers in Youth Justice, Social Care, Mental Health, or Therapeutic Education.
14. Work in a trauma-informed, therapeutic school where emotional safety is the priority.
15. Training provided in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), PDA-informed practice, and restorative approaches.
16. Opportunity for a permanent role after the summer term.
