General Practice Assistant (GPA) / Rosedean House Surgery
Part-time: 30 hours per week (full-time equivalent 40 hours per week)

About the Role
As a General Practice Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting GPs, nurses, and the wider practice team. You’ll help prepare patients for consultations, carry out basic clinical tasks, manage clinical correspondence, and ensure patients receive a smooth, efficient, and compassionate service. You’ll be patient-facing, organised, and confident using IT systems, with training and support provided where required.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
1. Preparing patients by taking basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight)
2. Performing ECGs and urine dip tests
3. Supporting with wound care, dressings, and immunisations
4. Explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients
5. Arranging follow-up appointments and managing test results
6. Liaising with hospitals and external services on behalf of clinicians
7. Potential involvement in phlebotomy (subject to training and competence)
Administrative Duties
8. Processing and coding clinical correspondence accurately
9. Maintaining patient records using EMIS / SystmOne
10. Managing patient queries via phone, email, and in person
11. Booking appointments, referrals, and follow-ups
12. Sorting clinical post and preparing documentation for GP sign-off
13. Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked, clean, and equipment sterilised
About You
Essential
14. GCSEs (or equivalent)
15. Ability to take and record basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight) accurately
16. Experience performing basic clinical procedures (ECGs, urine dips), or willingness to training
17. Experience supporting clinicians with wound care, dressings, and immunisations, or willingness to training
18. Understanding of infection control and safe clinical practice
19. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
20. Strong IT skills and confidence using clinical systems
21. Highly organised with excellent time management
22. Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
23. A patient-centred, professional, and non-judgemental approach
24. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
25. Adaptable, reliable, and eager to learn
Desirable
26. Previous experience working in a busy GP practice
27. Familiarity with EMIS or SystmOne
