The role:
Successful candidates will have an occupational therapy degree (or equivalent) and be HCPC registered. Able to evidence community experience with a range of conditions. As this is a board wide role, access to a car is desirable.
The post holder is a member of the team within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service and will provide Occupational Therapy interventions within the team.
1. Works as an autonomous practitioner managing a specialist clinical caseload within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
2. Has operational responsibility for the daily functions of the Occupational Therapy service within AHP Long Term Conditions Service
3. Supervises the Health Care Support Workers within the Long Term Conditions Service
4. Has a key role in the education and development of Occupational Therapy and other staff within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
5. Active involvement in Research and Development within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
6. Provides a specialist resource to other health care staff / patients / carers / other agencies
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
7. NHSGGC are recruiting three-fixed term occupational therapy staff for the new health board wide AHP Long-term Conditions Service
8. This is a hybrid role but touch down space is available in a number of sites including Gorbals Health Centre, Rowan Business Park and Stobhill Hospital
9. This is a fixed-term role until 31st march 2027
10. The shift pattern for this post is 09:00 to 17:00
Key responsibilities:
11. Is professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice as per Health Care Professions Council Guidelines
12. Assesses capacity, gains valid consent and can work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent
13. Acts independently to assess and analyse clinical and non-clinical information and has responsibility for verifying the diagnosis where required. This will include patients with multiple morbidities pathologies and complex clinical presentation. The intervention will be completed timeously
14. Using a brief intervention model, acts independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise their supported self-management, rehabilitation potential and functional independence, including decision-making regarding discharge from care
15. Maintains patient documentation as per the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Standards
16. Manages an identified complex caseload of patients effectively and efficiently within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
17. Delivers specialist interventions within a brief interventions model using a digital first approach using the principles of graded activity and a wide range of treatment techniques i.e. neuro developmental, therapeutic handling techniques, functional rehabilitation, psychological and emotional wellbeing adaptation, equipment provision, vocational rehabilitation, education and health improvement
18. Works as a key member of a multi-professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care
19. Prescribes and coordinates intervention to be carried out by others such as support workers including training to carry out therapeutic programmes as appropriate
20. Attends and reports in clinical meetings and case conferences
21. Provides specialist advice, when required, on the management of patients within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service e.g. strategies for coping with perceptual / cognitive deficits

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
23. BSc Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
24. Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council
25. Fieldwork / student supervisory experience
26. A variety of postgraduate experience of a variety of long term conditions
27. Computer literate including use of e-mail and internet search skills
28. Evidence of experience of clinical effectiveness - audit / systematic reviews, research proposals
29. Supervisory skills in developing and supporting staff
