Job overview

A fixed term contract post is available for a Post-CCT diagnostic imaging fellow in the Department of Radiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The following subspecialties are available (up to 1 post each): Paediatric imaging, Gynaecological imaging, Urological imaging, Neuroradiology.

The applicant should possess FRCR or equivalent and should be able to start in August 2026. This post is for a fixed term duration of up to one year, until August 2027.

The Department is based on 3 sites in West London (Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital) and offers a wide exposure to all aspects of diagnostic Imaging. Alongside clinical exposure, this post strongly encourages research, quality improvement and teaching involvement.

Kindly note:There are three posts, two starting in August 2026 and one starting in November 2026.

Main duties of the job

(a) The purpose of this post is to provide advanced subspecialty training in Diagnostic imaging. The fellow will be expected to:

i) Work with the consultants and specialist registrars (SpRs) to fulfil the clinical obligations of the department.

ii) Participate in research projects.

iii) Quality improvement and audit activity.

iv) Participate in formal and informal teaching to SpRs, medical students and ancillary medical personnel.

(b) Clinical Commitment: The fellow will initially be under the direct supervision of a consultant but will have a more autonomous role as they gain experience.

(c) Out of hours work: Mandatory participation in a fellow rota (1:6 weekday evening and weekend days), This would be to support the on call radiology residents. Services include tertiary level multi-modality imaging in hyperacute stroke and neurosurgery, vascular imaging (including for renal and pancreatic transplant assessment), Level 1 major trauma, and all areas of general radiology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applications are invited for a fixed term Post-CCT diagnostic imaging radiology fellow. The fellow will work closely alongside an established team of consultant radiologists.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in radiology, previous experience in imaging of the subspeciality of choice is welcomed. Fellows will gain comprehensive exposure across a broad range of imaging and relevant interventions. The fellow will be also expected to contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and the general work of the department which includes participation in the fellow on-call rota.

An interest in training and research is strongly encouraged, and fellows are invited to organise and participate in regular teaching activities for other trainees in the department.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. On GMC register/ licensed Medical Practitioner
2. FRCR or equivalent

Desirable criteria

3. Post graduate degrees (BSc, MD, PhD etc)

Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty

Essential criteria

4. Experience in wide range of imaging modalities and specialties. Experience of reporting Acute imaging with a high level of autonomy including (but not restricted to) Acute neuroradiology and trauma
5. Pre-CCT Subspecialty training in subspecialty of choice

Desirable criteria

6. Experience of working in a level 1 trauma centre
7. Experience of working in comprehensive stroke centre

Audit

8. Experience of participating in clinical audits

Desirable criteria

9. Experience of clinical audit

Academic achievements including research/publications

Desirable criteria

10. Publications in peer reviewed journals.
11. Presentations at national or international meetings.

Language

12. Fluent English speaker

13. Physically capable of working as general radiologist
14. Occupational health clearance for the role specified

Communication Skills

15. Fluent English speaker. Experience of PACS/VR reporting

16. General radiology: independent reporting of on call work, CT and Ultrasound and emergency MRI

Desirable criteria

17. Experience of reporting subspecialty specific imaging and basic procedures
