Job SummaryWe are looking for a clinically driven Independent Prescribing Pharmacist to join our community pharmacy team in Scotland. This role focuses on expanding clinical services, delivering patient-centred care, and utilising prescribing skills to improve access to treatment within the community setting.You will play a key role in service delivery aligned with NHS Scotland priorities, including managing common clinical conditions, supporting long-term condition care, and reducing pressure on GP services.
Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver independent prescribing clinics within scope of competence (e.g., minor illness, acute conditions, long-term condition management)Provide Pharmacy First Plus / NHS Pharmacy First Scotland servicesConduct clinical consultations, assessments, and prescribing decisionsDeliver structured medication reviews and support medicines optimisationManage and support long-term conditions (e.g., hypertension, asthma, COPD)Provide urgent care consultations and triage patients appropriatelyAdminister vaccination services (e.g., flu, travel, NHS campaigns)Lead and develop private clinical services (if applicable)Ensure compliance with Scottish clinical guidelines and PGDsSupport the safe supply of medicines and supervise dispensing processesProvide leadership, training, and support to pharmacy team membersMaintain accurate clinical records and ensure confidentiality
Person SpecificationEssential CriteriaRegistered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)Qualified Independent Prescriber (IP)Experience working in community pharmacyStrong consultation and clinical assessment skillsAbility to work autonomously and make safe prescribing decisionsExcellent communication and patient care skills
Desirable CriteriaExperience delivering NHS Pharmacy First Scotland servicesTraining in minor illness / acute care prescribingExperience with vaccination servicesLeadership or management experiencePostgraduate clinical qualification
