An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Shah Zaman Surgery, part of the North Birmingham Primary Care Network (PCN). We are a dynamic and forward‑thinking practice, passionate about delivering high‑quality local healthcare services that meet the needs of our patients. Following recent changes to the ARRS Scheme, now including General Practitioners, we are expanding our PCN by recruiting a newly qualified General Practitioner (must be qualified within the last two years). Job Description
Role: Salaried General Practitioner (ARRS)
Responsible to: Dr Asad Zaman
Sessions: 4 per week
Summary of Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care managing a caseload at Shah Zaman Surgery.
* Deliver face‑to‑face surgery, telephone consultations, home visits and administrative duties.
* Work collaboratively with the PCN team to ensure safe, effective, integrated care.
Main Duties & Responsibilities – Clinical
* Conduct face‑to‑face and telephone consultations, manage patient queries, reports, and correspondence efficiently.
* Triage patients presenting via telephone, online or in person.
* Make autonomous clinical decisions for self‑referred patients or referrals from colleagues.
* Assess and manage undifferentiated and undiagnosed patient problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans with patients in line with practice protocols, promoting healthy lifestyles and patient education.
* Manage long‑term conditions and patients with complex needs.
* Maintain clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Collect data for audit and meet QOF requirements.
* Deliver enhanced services as required.
* Manage and review patient test results.
* Refer patients to secondary care or other relevant services, including internal PCN team members.
* Prescribe and issue repeat and acute prescriptions in line with local and national guidelines.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: MBBS or equivalent medical degree; Full registration with the GMC; Certification of Completion of Training JCPTGP/PMETB; Applicant within two years of completion of GP training; Inclusion on Performers List; Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development.
* Desirable: Understanding of medical services within a wider public health agenda; Knowledge of demographic characteristics that affect health and health care, including health inequalities; Understanding of current NHS policies; Understanding of Primary Care Networks and how they work.
Experience
* Essential: Experience of primary care through the GP Vocational Training Scheme.
* Desirable: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and verbally), excellent organisational and record‑keeping skills, time‑management, ability to work calmly under pressure, initiative, fresh ideas, IT skills, commitment to quality and equality, teamwork, flexibility and adaptability, openness to alternative working practices.
