Pre Op Assessment Team Lead | Registered Nurse | Full Time | Permanent | Slough | Competitive pay plus fantastic benefits

Spire Thames Valley in Slough are looking for an experienced Pre Op Assessment Team Leader to join the pre assessment department on a full time basis of 37.5hrs per week.

This role will suit a Pre Op Assessment Nurse who is looking for the next step in their career or a Nurse with the team leader experience.

Working hrs and days - Monday-Friday 9-5, 8-4, at times 10-6pm. Occasional Saturday 9-5pm.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Working autonomously, completes POA for a caseload of patients and backfilling protected clinic slots for short dated bookings, undertaking a targeted history with assessment of past medical, operative and anaesthetic history.
2. Lead on the clinical triage of all patient Health Questionnaires to ensure appropriate POA pathway identified for all patients.
3. Local hospital short dated bookings process to be followed to reduce pressure points and to ensure a smooth patient journey for urgent cases.
4. Completes testing as per NICE guidelines (NG45), interprets and manages the results, and where appropriate initiates relevant referrals to appropriate staff.
5. Completes venepuncture, electrocardiogram, lung function testing and requesting of x-ray as per policy where clinically appropriate.
6. Identifies patients with specific health issues and undertakes relevant risk scoring where indicated and manages the results.
7. Demonstrates appropriate review of previous anaesthetic documentation and is able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key factors that would require referral for anaesthetist assessment.
8. Follows up on outcomes of referrals to ensure fitness to proceed.
9. Provides information about any specific pre-operative instructions, intraoperative care and discharge.
10. Identifies cultural requirements, communication or other specialist health or social needs.
11. Liaises with the anaesthetist and surgeon to determine fitness to proceed.
12. Following assessment, seeks advice where necessary, to ensure the appropriate level of post-operative care can be determined.
13. Actively manages the MDT process, tracking patients and communicates any special requirements and essential resources to the wider teams.

Who we're looking for

14. Adult Nursing Degree and registered with the NMC
15. Has undertaken a nationally recognised pre-assessment course.
16. Significant working in a pre-operative assessment team and experience in a pre-op team leader role.
17. Advance assessment skills in a POA or equivalent background.
18. Able to work independently and prioritise patient caseload and POA workload.
19. Ability to work autonomously and experience of supervision of staff.
20. Experience of leadership
21. Well-developed communication skills, written verbal and IT.
22. Participates and assists in the development of policy, guidelines and patient information for POA.
23. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
24. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and externally
25. Strong focus on delivering and meeting customer expectations
26. Takes an active role in the supervision and teaching of staff and students, including assessment of EEs for junior staff.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday with occasional Saturday's

Contract Type: Permanent
