The Role

Accountable to the Head of Adult Psychological Therapies, and responsible to the Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (Locality Co-ordinator):

1. Be responsible for the systematic autonomous provision of a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service to adults referred to Adult Psychological Therapies.
2. Provide clinical supervision to clinical staff within Adult Psychological Therapies.
3. Contribute to Psychological Services training, teaching and research activities.
4. Represent the Locality Co-ordinator as required.

What we'll need you to bring

5. Have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be a Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK.
6. Complete further courses of additional learning as relevant to the clinical skills required for the post and identified as significant in the Personal Development Plan, and have accredited training in the supervision of Post Graduate clinical trainees.
7. Have knowledge of NHSL Health Board's Policies and Procedures, and national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care e.g. child protection guidelines.
8. Have knowledge of psychiatry and other related professions in order to understand complex clinical presentations.
9. Work in a sensitive manner with respect to diversity and gender, ethnic, culture and philosophical issues with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
10. Be aware of the limits of one's competence and expertise.
11. Maintain and update knowledge of legislation and local policies and issues in relation to Adult Mental Health generally.
12. Attend in-house and external mandatory training courses (e.g.) computer training, Moving and Handling, Management of Aggression and Violence, etc.
13. Be aware of the need to deploy valuable Health Service resources in an effective and rational manner according to contemporary evidence-based practice.

It would be great if you also have

14. Additional training in specific therapies
15. Evidence of an interest in and experience of working with clients with complex psychological difficulties, with a particular focus on early intervention
16. Evidence of an interest in and experience of working with clients with severe mental health problems
17. Evidence of experience in supporting staff within psychiatry.
18. Evidence of supervising Doctoral and /or Masters Level Psychology trainees.
19. Have specialist knowledge related to specific area of work, e.g. Eating disorders, trauma
20. Some additional training in psychological therapies e.g. Family work, Disorder specific therapies
21. Have specialist knowledge of neuropsychological function as well as brain anatomy and function
22. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
23. Knowledge of a range of theoretical approaches and applied techniques in working with individuals, groups and wider systems and the ability to apply these in practice
24. Excellent skills in communicating with patients, referrers, and staff from external agencies.
25. High level skills of consultation to individuals and organisations
26. Good assessment, formulation and therapeutic skills
27. Possess a full driving licence

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Mental Health & Learning Disabilities within Carluke Community Health Centre
