Summary
Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation period. Prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas (e.g., music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, languages, health).
Description
This classified position is open to all qualified applicants. Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 30, 2025. The position offers 2.59 hours per day, 174 days per year, with a salary grade of 6 at $19.60 per hour (2025-26 Support Salary Table). Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase. Please note: THIS POSITION IS FOR THE UPCOMING 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR. Hours are approximate.
General Function
Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation period. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, classroom materials, and providing instruction in specialized subject areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, and languages.
Educational Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
2. Formal education or training in the specialized area is preferred.
3. Educational requirement: The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test, which will be required at a later date.
Knowledge & Ability
1. Knowledge of subject matter areas related to assigned courses.
2. Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with students, teachers, and other school personnel.
3. Ability to effectively teach assigned course subjects.
Job-Related Experience
1. None required.
2. Experience working with children is preferred.
