The roles
We’re excited to offer opportunities for Engineering Managers within our Onshore or Offshore teams to lead multidisciplinary engineers in delivering innovative and value‑adding engineering solutions across our transmission project portfolio. You will play a pivotal role in providing a safe and reliable supply of electricity, supporting delivery of a Network for Net Zero.
The roles in the Onshore team support delivery of major substation, overhead line (OHL) and underground cable (UGC) projects and asset replacement programmes.
The roles in the Offshore team deliver major HVAC & HVDC projects, encompassing onshore UGC AC & DC systems, landfalls and subsea installation for transmission enhancement programmes.
You will
* Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering major transmission infrastructure projects across onshore, offshore and cable system scopes, as appropriate to role placement.
* Provide engineering leadership, governance and assurance across a £200m+ portfolio of projects, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment, ensuring robust design development and effective management of technical risk.
* Ensure appropriate engineering resources are in place, including in‑house capability and the procurement and oversight of specialist consultants where required.
* Champion safety in design across the project portfolio, fulfilling Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations and embedding strong safety culture and compliance, while ensuring alignment with Operational user and wider Transmission network requirements.
* Drive the application of sound engineering practice and innovation to deliver efficient, compliant and value‑for‑money solutions, and support, mentor and develop engineers, creating opportunities for growth and continuous learning. Build strong, positive relationships with stakeholders to support successful delivery.
You have
* A degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably Chartered Engineer status, with experience gained in a large infrastructure or major capital project environment.
* Strong experience in engineering management, including leadership of multidisciplinary teams and accountability for technical delivery and governance.
* Relevant technical experience within the electricity transmission sector (or comparable industries), including onshore transmission, OHL, UGC, HVDC or major cable systems; subsea experience welcomed but not essential.
* A proven ability to manage risk, prioritise effectively and make sound technical decisions within complex delivery environments, with working knowledge of relevant legislation including CDM and safety‑in‑design obligations.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly, negotiate and influence stakeholders, building effective working relationships across a broad range of internal and external partners.
