This is an exciting time to join the service, as we strengthen our capacity to improve housing standards, protect tenants, and deliver proportionate enforcement, including implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
Environmental Health Officer
Salary: £51,931 – £58,775 (Grade F), Permanent, Full Time, 37 Hours per week
You will support the management of the Private Sector Housing service and provide supervision to Housing Improvement Officers. The role involves leading complex investigations, carrying out inspections, and taking formal enforcement action to ensure residents live in safe, healthy, and well‑managed homes.
Essential requirements:
* BSc or MSc Degree in Environmental Health
* Registered with EHRB/CIEH
* Strong knowledge of housing legislation, HHSRS, and enforcement practice
Housing Improvement Officers (2 posts)
Salary: £34,804 – £40,022 (Grade H), Permanent, Full Time, 37 Hours per week
You will deliver frontline private sector housing work, including investigations into disrepair, inspections of HMOs and caravan sites, enforcement activity, and advice to tenants and landlords. The role also includes supporting empty homes work and administering housing grants and loans.
Ideal for candidates with:
* Experience in housing, construction, or a related field
* Knowledge of housing legislation and building construction
Technical Support Officer
Salary: £26,255 – £28,716 (Grade J), Permanent, Full Time, 37 Hours per week
You will provide essential administrative and technical support to the Private Sector Housing Team, including data management, performance reporting, maintaining public registers, and supporting service delivery.
Ideal for candidates with:
* Strong administrative and organisational skills
* Confidence using Microsoft Office and willingness to learn case management systems
