Child & Young Persons Support Manager – Children with Disabilities Team, North Essex

Permanent, Full Time. Salary: £48,205 to £57,988 per annum. Location: Colchester. Working Style: Community-based worker.


The Opportunity

The Team Manager leads the Child and Young People’s support team to deliver bespoke interventions to children and young people with complex disabilities, and their families. The manager will possess a deep understanding of the impact of disability upon families and how to support effective positive behaviour support.

With proven ability to focus on results, develop innovative solutions and build strong working relationships with partners, schools, and multi‑disciplinary teams.

The role will involve providing leadership and support across a team of support staff, enabling the development of individuals within the team. Key responsibilities will include using expertise and professional knowledge to provide guidance on complex cases and ensuring delivery of a high‑quality service with positive outcomes.


Accountabilities

* Manage allocation of all referrals, incoming work, and tasks to staff individually and monitor workload and closure of cases.
* Manage all recruitment and induction processes for new staff, identify and oversee training needs for staff and liaise with ESCA regarding any specific identified training needs.
* Provide regular supervision, review staff development, provide reflective case supervision and complete staff annual performance capabilities. Provide oversight on outcomes of interventions, support plans, and reports such as Child Protection conference reports.
* Establish, develop and maintain productive relationships with other agencies and organisations, and work in a multi‑disciplinary way to achieve best outcomes for families.
* Participate in wider strategic developments by attending meetings with partners in Health, Learning Disability services and Commissioning.
* Oversee quality assurance of services, manage and respond to complaints or compliments and implement learning from them.
* Use data information systems (PowerBi) to monitor specific data, inform service planning and team plans and performance reports.
* Ensure all staff understand and follow SET procedures and any concerns are highlighted and recorded correctly, following ECC policies and guidance.
* Continue to expand and develop the service, provide consistent advice, guidance, support and consultation to colleagues across all relevant services, including other frontline teams.


The Experience You Will Bring

* A recognised social work qualification (Diploma, degree or Masters in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a registered social worker.
* Evidence of continuing professional development, aligned to professional competency or capability frameworks or knowledge and skills statements.
* Experience of managing staff in a supervisory role.
* Specialist knowledge of disability and its impact on families, trauma, challenging behaviour and positive behaviour support management.
* Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Care Act 2014 and other legislative and policy guidance applicable within Children’s Social Care, including SET procedures.
* Ability to lead team meetings and contribute to other relevant professional meetings.
* Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in partnership with other agencies and professionals to maximise outcomes for disabled children and their families.
* Ability to complete written reports to a good standard.


Additional Requirements

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area, travelling around Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings. A driving licence and car or alternative means to meet the mobility requirements is essential.
