Imperial College London manages one of the largest estates in the university sector, providing a wide range of services to an academic community renowned for Engineering, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Business Management, Research, and Teaching.
We are recruiting an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join the H&S Team, responsible for developing and implementing a safety management system to ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and Imperial policies. The role focuses on providing health and safety guidance to the Maintenance and Building Operations Teams, requiring a thorough understanding of principles related to mechanical, electrical, and fabric maintenance.
The successful candidate will support relevant departments in planning, organizing, controlling, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Responsibilities include conducting compliance audits and inspections, providing expert advice on health & safety matters, and collaborating with internal teams to promote a safe working environment across diverse facilities.
Additional duties involve developing compliance audits, establishing action plans, producing management reports on KPIs related to health & safety, and recommending improvements to maintain standards and promote best practices.
Minimum requirements include:
1. NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
2. Graduate Membership of IOSH
3. Practical application of health & safety risk management in complex environments
4. Experience in formulating Codes of Practice and Safe Operating Procedures
5. Review and auditing of safety management compliance
6. Experience working collaboratively across all levels and shared premises
7. Performing risk assessments, delivering training, accident investigations, policy development, and inspections/audits
8. Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication within a large organization
9. Analytical skills with a structured, methodical approach, capable of managing multiple activities
10. Ability to undertake thorough risk assessments, investigations, inspections, and audits, with appropriate reporting
11. Flexibility to work across all Imperial campus locations
