Behaviour / SEMH Specialist Teacher – Blackburn & Darwen
Role: Behaviour Support / SEMH Specialist Teacher
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £130–£180 per day
Contract: Long-term / Temp-to-perm / Flexible support
Are you a resilient, calm and passionate teacher who thrives on supporting children with additional emotional and behavioural needs?
Schools across Blackburn & Darwen are actively seeking dedicated SEMH/Behaviour Specialists who can provide stability, structure and genuine care to pupils who need it most.
❤️ Why this role is so meaningful:
Children with SEMH needs often require a different style of teaching — someone who sees beyond behaviour and understands the underlying emotions, triggers and challenges. As a specialist, your impact is daily, visible and life-changing.
In this role, you may be working in specialist SEMH provisions, nurture bases, alternative provisions, or mainstream schools with high SEMH needs. Whichever setting you’re placed in, you’ll be joining supportive teams who value patience, reflection and relationship-building above all else.
What your day may include:
* Providing targeted 1:1 or small-group support
* Adapting lessons to meet emotional and behavioural needs
* Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
* Implementing de-escalation and restorative strategies
* Supporting children with trauma, attachment needs or challenging backgrounds
* Working closely with pastoral teams, SENCOs and TAs
* Encouraging pupils to re-engage with learning through positivity and consistency
* Celebrating small wins that make a big difference
What we offer:
✔ Higher pay rates for specialist skills
✔ Long-term roles offering stability and consistent relationships
✔ Opportunities within SEMH schools, PRUs and nurturing mainstream provisions
✔ Free CPD such as:
* Behaviour Management
* Trauma-Informed Practice
* Team Teach / De-escalation
* Autism & ADHD Awareness
✔ Supportive placements with experienced teams
✔ A consultant (me!) who understands SEMH and will place you in the right environment
You’ll be a great fit if you:
* Stay calm in challenging situations
* Understand behaviour as communication
* Believe in restorative approaches
* Can build positive relationships with vulnerable pupils
* Have experience with SEMH, behaviour, SEND, youth work or alternative education
* Are passionate about helping children overcome barriers and succeed
