As a Highways Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of highways and transportation schemes, working under the guidance of Senior and Principal Engineers. You will be responsible for producing high-quality technical outputs, developing your engineering capability, and contributing positively to project teams.
Core Responsibilities
* Assist in the design and development of highways and transportation schemes across feasibility, preliminary, and detailed design stages.
* Produce highways designs, drawings, calculations, and schedules in accordance with relevant standards and guidance, including DMRB, Manual for Streets, and local authority requirements.
* Prepare technical information for reports, specifications, and tender documentation.
* Support the coordination of highways design inputs with other disciplines, including drainage, structures, and utilities.
* Respond to technical queries and comments under the direction of Senior Engineers.
* Support construction phases by assisting with technical clarifications, site queries, and design updates as required.
Additional Engineer-Level Duties
* Carry out design checks and reviews on own work prior to submission, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
* Maintain clear and well-organised design records, calculations, and technical files.
* Assist with data collection, site visits, surveys, and analysis to inform design development.
* Support optioneering and feasibility studies, including the preparation of sketches and comparative assessments.
* Contribute to risk assessments and design risk reviews under supervision.
* Develop proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or similar).
