The First opinion leadership team at Scarsdale Vets welcomes applications from enthusiastic veterinary surgeons to apply for an exciting development opportunity to join our RCVS accredited practice located in Alfreton, Derbyshire. We see a mix of routine and emergency medical and surgical cases and strive to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. A welcome bonus of up to £5,000 (pro rata) and relocation support of up to £5,000 are available.
Rota and Working Patterns
We offer flexible working patterns to suit your lifestyle. A typical full-time role involves 38 hours per week over a 4-day week, with a 1:6 Saturday shift (08:30 – 13:00) at our Langley Mill practice. You will receive time back in lieu the following week. Bank holiday cover is required at our main Pride Park hospital on a rota basis. You may be required to assist in cover across any of our practice sites.
About Us
We are a multisite practice in the Midlands with a main RCVS Tier 3 accredited hospital and 8 practice sites, all accredited by the RCVS under the Practice Standards Scheme. Our team includes 25 Veterinary Surgeons and a roster of New Grad Vets supported by Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants, and Client Care Advisors. Many team members hold certificates in Medicine, Surgery, ECC, Ophthalmology, and Imaging. The hospital is equipped with a CT scanner, MRI, Advanced Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Digital X-ray, Dental radiography, multiple surgical suites, an onsite hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre, and access to a multidisciplinary specialist-led referral service.
At the Alfreton location, we offer a range of veterinary services with three well-sized consultation rooms, a prep area, and an operating theatre for routine procedures such as dentals, neutering, and lump removals. There are separate dog and cat wards and an isolation ward for post-surgery recovery. The practice includes a dispensary, imaging room with x-ray and ultrasound facilities, a laboratory, and a retail area. The waiting area has separate cat and dog sections to support our dog-friendly and cat-friendly approach.
Living and Working Location
Alfreton is centrally located with good transport links. Nearby cities include Manchester, Nottingham, and Birmingham. The A6 connects Derbyshire to Leicester and Manchester; the M1 provides access to London or Sheffield and Leeds. East Midlands Airport is ~30 minutes away. The area is close to the Peak District National Park for outdoor activities and has cultural options in Derby and surrounding towns.

Salary and Role Details
Salary range: £40,000 – £68,000 per year. Up to £68,000 (DOE).
