What will this role achieve?
Our Site Engineering Manager role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference at our Carlisle manufacturing site. In this pivotal leadership role, you will coach the engineering team to build capability, building strong succession plans. You will support diversity and inclusion with in the team. Be able to drive performance improvements building on the foundations that are already in place, lead on major modernisation projects, manage multi-million-pound budgets and support the sustainability goals of the site. The leader will be responsible for setting the engineering strategy and lead engineering activities, ensuring efficient production through maintenance of assets, assured technical capabilities and compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
You will ensure that the business maintains maximum effectiveness and benefit from existing site technology and in parallel develop concepts and strategies for introducing new manufacturing methods and technologies. In order to succeed, you will know what excellent looks like within a world-class organisation and have the skills and experience to achieve this.
Communication is one of the major factors for the success of this role, you will need to be able to communicate at all levels, be able to build strong working relationships, and influence and bring different groups around to your way of thinking.
What will be your key deliverables?
* To develop and implement a strategy that will ensure the Engineering function is effective, low cost, well-motivated, flexible, and continually adapts to changing circumstances.
* To ensure continued improvement in engineering skills through a structured development programme.
* Ensure compliance with legislative, and European directive requirements.
* Ensure systems for stores to minimise inventory levels and working capital.
* Maximise utilisation of our skilled personnel. Integrate craftsmen and line operators into teams by deciding on the most effective maintenance structure.
* Create, implement and manage both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the factory, to achieve factory and business targets including supplier optimisation and minimal inventories, be responsible management of the asset register and asset disposal.
* Develop plans for replacements plant, processes and systems as required by business objectives and plant condition.
* Ensure departmental compliance to Health & Safety and environment legislation
* Together with the factory management team ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business. This includes the provision and use of services on which the business depends (gas, water, electricity, compressed air, effluent removal) and the environment.
* Ensure that standards and procedures are in place and regularly updated to govern all engineering activities on site including all aspects of new asset realisation, safe working practices and management of contractors and assessment of competence of all engineering staff,
* Support in continuous improvement projects and activities.
* Ensure that a culture of safety is promoted by taking ownership for the setting and the management of the health and safety agenda for the site
Bring your experience
* Mechanical or Electrical qualification within an engineering discipline.
* Background in engineering within a large multi-site manufacturing organisation
* Excellent trouble-shooter with the ability to resolve problems effectively
* Experience of delivering engineering change projects
* Experience of handling budgets
* Exceptional communication skills with demonstrable record of influencing at all levels within an organisation
* Confident decision maker who understands the commercial implications of decisions
* Experience of working within a multi-functional senior management team
* Proven track record of delivering performance improvements
