Purpose of the role
Reporting to the District Operations Manager, the Relief Plant Supervisor is responsible for the overall control of each site he/she covers.
Main duties include using computer-based systems for batching and dispatching concrete, communicating with customers face-to-face and over the phone, performing routine maintenance, supervising contractors and hauliers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and Environmental Legislation.
Other key responsibilities include ensuring that the concrete produced complies with our quality scheme and that site housekeeping standards are maintained.
Key accountabilities
1. Coordinate with the Customer Service Centre to ensure that the production of concrete/mortar meets customer requirements, delivering optimal output, quality, and standards according to the Procedures Manual, Working Instructions, and Technical Instructions.
2. Regularly inspect and carry out routine maintenance on plant equipment, ensuring cleanliness of plant mechanisms, areas, buildings, and equipment as per instructions.
3. Ensure waste disposal, water discharges, and dust emissions comply with Environmental Procedures.
4. Maintain sufficient materials to meet production demands.
5. Inspect incoming materials weekly through visual checks and verify stocks monthly, ensuring the plant is stocked with approved materials at all times.
6. Ensure all employees, contractors, and visitors follow safety instructions.
7. Review work methods and plant utilization regularly to optimize use of resources.
8. Operate the batching plant effectively, maintaining site presentation standards.
9. Accurately batch concrete/mortar following procedures.
10. Perform routine maintenance and defect inspections, recording actions taken.
11. Report any defects, incidents, or issues that may impact health & safety, environment, product quality, or service.
12. Keep the site, plant, and buildings clean, tidy, and safe.
13. Maintain security of the site and facilities at all times.
Compliance
1. Ensure the plant is stocked with approved materials, including additives and fuel, and that material tickets are correctly entered. Notify the admin of discrepancies.
2. Immediately put on hold and raise CRDF forms for delivery tickets requiring action, ensuring detailed information for prompt processing.
3. Familiarize with and ensure compliance with quality control policies.
4. Seek guidance from the District Operations Manager on matters beyond the supervisor's authority.
5. Handle customer inquiries politely, maintaining a high standard of company image.
6. Manage plant operations during winter, including draining ground material boot hoppers, water pipes, pumps, and other equipment as needed.
