Database Administrator (Contract) - 6 Months Outside IR35
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid)
Rate: £475-£550 per day
Contract: Outside IR35
An experienced Database Administrator is required to support a major public sector client on a business‑critical programme. The role sits within an engineering‑led environment and works closely with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure database platforms are secure, performant and resilient.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and evolve database schemas in collaboration with engineering teams
2. Monitor, diagnose and resolve database and query performance issues
3. Review and optimise operational SQL, including use of stored procedures
4. Manage database availability, security, backup, recovery and disaster recovery
5. Perform upgrades, migrations, patching and ongoing maintenance
6. Support releases and deployments involving database changes
7. Set and uphold database administration standards, capacity planning and best practice
Required Experience
8. 5+ years' experience with MySQL or MariaDB, specifically InnoDB
9. Strong working knowledge of AWS data services (Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB)
10. 5+ years' experience in database performance management and tuning (schemas, indexes, SQL)
11. Proven experience creating and reviewing SQL within an SCM‑backed CI/CD lifecycle
12. Strong background in schema design and lifecycle management (tables, indexes, constraints)
13. Hands‑on experience developing Stored Procedures and Functions
14. Experience working collaboratively with wider engineering teams to design and improve new or existing services
