Job Description
3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to support the Adult Social Care & Health team on a temporary basis.
• The role involves carrying out functional and environmental assessments to support children and families, with a particular focus on sensory needs, moving and handling, and specialist equipment provision.
• The post holder will also manage Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) cases, ensuring appropriate housing adaptations are recommended to promote independence and safety.
• This role requires strong assessment skills, knowledge of housing legislation, and the ability to manage complex cases effectively.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Conduct occupational therapy assessments to identify functional needs and appropriate interventions.
• Complete children’s assessments, including evaluating developmental needs and sensory requirements.
• Assess and recommend specialist equipment and adaptations to support independence and safety.
• Provide guidance on moving and handling techniques for children and carers.
• Manage and assess Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications, including complex cases involving housing adaptations.
• Work collaboratively with housing teams, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate adaptation works.
• Undertake home visits and environmental assessments to determine suitable adaptations or equipment.
• Prepare clear assessment reports, recommendations, and documentation for case records.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case management records in line with council policies.
• Provide professional advice to families, carers, and partner agencies regarding occupational therapy interventions.

Skills/Experience:
• Qualified Occupational Therapist with relevant professional qualification.
• Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in occupational therapy practice.
• Experience conducting children’s occupational therapy assessments.
• Knowledge of sensory processing needs and interventions.
• Experience with moving and handling assessments and risk management.
• Strong understanding of specialist equipment and assistive technology.
• Knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) legislation and housing adaptation processes.
• Experience working within local authority or social care environments.
• Ability to manage complex cases and competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional reporting.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Full UK driving licence and access to transport (essential for home visits).

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Hours: 37 hours per week (08:45 – 17:15).
• Rate: £28.40 per hour (UMB).
• Working Pattern: Hybrid – two days per week in the office (touchdown space available between visits).
• Requirement: Adults MOC form must be completed and submitted with the candidate submission.
• Driving: Driver essential due to community visits.


Requirements
