Reader Volunteer for Person We Support
Location: Maidstone
Time Commitment: Minimum of 1 hour per week
We are looking for someone to help a person we support learn to read. If you enjoy reading, then this is the role for you! It would be great if you have a background in teaching and education (especially in SEN) but don't worry if you don't. We are looking for someone that is keen to help others learn to read, who is friendly and loves to chat. The person you'd be reading with has a visual impairment, so patience is important. This role is based at our service in Maidstone. Skills required
1. To love to read and ideally have a background in teaching and education
2. To have a good sense of humour, love to chat and be a good listener
3. To be punctual and reliable
4. To be kind, empathetic and patient
5. To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures
6. To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guide/orientation

To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering directly with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role. About Us
