We are seeking

to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in Rheumatology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology to be part of the BioRes consortium which is a standard of care umbrella longitudinal cohort study in rheumatoid arthritis. You will be working with colleagues in Glasgow, Newcastle and Birmingham. This post is part of an initiative pioneering the development of new experimental medicine strategies using basket trial design and pathology-based outcome measures to provide early go-no-go decisions in proof of biology studies in immune mediated inflammatory diseases. The aim is to move the field away from the traditional “organ-based, speciality-focussed” approach to experimental medicine to a cell-based, pathway-focussed classification for inflammatory diseases. In this role, you will participate in proof of biology and/or interventional studies in Rheumatology, working within the multidisciplinary team to deliver the strategic aims of the group and the delivery of the trial portfolio of studies according to time and target. You will be responsible for the identification and recruitment of patients to clinical trials liaising within the Gastroenterology department and other NHS departments to ensure a seamless service. You will be involved in the writing and submission of grant applications related to their particular area of research and participate in Kennedy and NDORMS seminars and other departmental activities as required. You will also be responsible for the clinical care of trial participants including monitoring and evaluating trial participants under the supervision of senior colleagues and working within your scope of clinical competence. Full training will be provided to ensure you have the necessary clinical skills required to include the preparation/storage of biological samples according to regulatory requirements. You must hold an undergraduate degree with honours or distinction in Medicine as well as be eligible to undertake clinical practice in the UK (having General Medical Council registration or proven eligibility for registration). You must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently together with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be comfortable and confident interacting with patients in a research study, team members, administrative staff, and the broader research community. You will demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development alongside excellent organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly and autonomously and contribute to / manage multiple projects at various stages of development and organisation. You will also demonstrate an ability to follow departmental guidance in handling sensitive and personal information, including complying with current data protection legislation. Specialist Registrar Grade or Certificate of Completion of Training is desirable.
