Physical, Electronic & People Security Manager
Join the Technology team at Yorkshire Water and help protect people, assets and critical infrastructure while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry security requirements.
Location
West Yorkshire – Hybrid working, 1–2 days in the office per week (Bradford – relocating to Leeds Summer 2026)
Work type
Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday‑Friday.

Responsibilities
* Lead safeguarding of Yorkshire Water’s critical national infrastructure and ensure secure and resilient delivery of essential services.
* Maintain compliance with regulatory, statutory and industry security requirements, including Defra, DWI, Water UK, SEMD, and Protective Security Guidance.
* Own the annual regulatory return and security incident reporting.
* Provide strategic leadership across physical, electronic and people security, setting direction and standards across the organisation.
* Manage a £10 m capital investment programme across the AMP period, delivering effective and future‑ready security solutions.
* Ensure security vetting and pre‑employment screening for employees, contractors and partners aligns with Protective Security Guidance.
* Collaborate with HR and the wider business to strengthen controls that mitigate insider risk.
* Champion a strong protective security culture, raising awareness and accountability.
* Lead, motivate and develop a team of security specialists and site access control experts.
* Invest in continuous professional and personal development for the team.
* Provide technical and non‑technical security advice to colleagues and capital delivery teams.
* Monitor internal and external threats using intelligence‑led approaches such as crime pattern analysis.
* Oversee security investigations and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and data‑protection requirements.
* Act as the security advisor to the Company Incident Management Plan and provide guidance during live incidents.
* Design and deliver security exercises for senior leaders and key personnel.
* Build and maintain relationships with government bodies, counter‑terrorism advisors, local police forces and external agencies.
* Define, maintain and regularly test Business Continuity Plans to ensure resilience.
* Drive continuous improvement to keep Yorkshire Water prepared for evolving threats and risks.
Qualifications
* Subject‑matter expert in protective security, encompassing physical, technical and electronic controls.
* Proven leadership experience managing teams, processes and performance.
* Strong stakeholder influence skills across all levels.
* Firm understanding of current security threats, technologies and vulnerabilities.
* Track record of driving sustained team performance against challenging business targets.
* Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships.
* Excellent communication skills, with experience in report writing, presentations and briefings of senior stakeholders.
* Previous programme or project management experience.
* Strong background in conducting security and criminal investigations.
* Experience of site surveys, audits, security assessments and risk assessments.
* Hold or able to obtain a Security Check (SC) security clearance.
* Full UK driving licence required.
