Principal Building Automation Engineer
About the Team
Cundall is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary consultancy offering a wide variety of engineering and sustainability services, with complementary specialisms, from locations across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
The Role
* Experienced Building Management System (BMS) design engineer with expertise in either Process Logic Controllers (PLC) & Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Direct Digital Controllers (DDC) and BMS Supervisory systems.
* Preferred experience in the data centre sector and understanding of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
* Excellent knowledge of mechanical plant control and electrical equipment monitoring.
* Collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary design teams (architect, civil, electrical, IT, mechanical, public health, structural engineers, etc.) to create innovative designs, make changes, comment on submittals, witness software bench tests, factory witness tests, review installation and provide post‑installation support.
* Advise on and develop technical standards, detailing and specifications for controls, and recommend appropriate control strategies within the Building Automation team of 20 members globally.
* Travel to project sites overseas four to six times per year for up to one week per trip, offering hands‑on involvement and visibility of work in action.
Key Skills
* Experience with BMS/ DDC and Supervisory platforms or PLC & SCADA; familiarity with building services automated controls in a consultancy or contracting environment.
* Expertise in heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning processes to maintain optimal air quality, temperature, humidity, and pressure.
* Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills for rapid diagnosis and efficient solutions to minimize system downtime.
* Excellent communication skills for clear documentation and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
* A track record of building automation experience combined with enthusiasm to learn, develop skills, and perform at the highest standard.
