Overview
This appointment is for a Consultant Dermatologist to join the dermatology team at County Durham and Darlington. Nominal Base to be arranged. We are looking to employ a full time Dermatologist, but part-time applicants will be considered. We would welcome a sub-specialist interest in skin cancer, surgery, vulval dermatoses or patch testing.
The Dermatology service is a trust-wide service that has medical and surgical components. The secondary care service delivers a range of Consultant and nurse-led services from University Hospital of North Durham, Darlington Memorial Hospital, Bishop Auckland General Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital. General Dermatology and Specialist Nurse Clinics are run from all sites while the specialist clinics and nurse-run procedure clinics are run from UHND only. Urgent Suspected Cancer clinics are based at UHND, with Consultant triaged cases seen by Dermatology and Plastic Surgery in one clinical setting with photographers and operators on standby from both specialities to allow seamless daily surgery.
Further, GPSI and specialist nurse clinics and surgery are offered from a range of community locations across the localities by the Community aspect of the service.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Clinician within the organization, it is expected that you will deliver and champion high quality and safety as a clinical leader within Dermatology. The clinical commitment of the post is to provide dermatological services predominantly in Durham but also from other sites as part of the hub and spoke model alongside Consultant colleagues and supported by our junior staff. The post-holder will be expected to provide a comprehensive dermatology clinical service, but with an emphasis on skin cancer and surgery provision, teledermatology sessions as well as acute on-call services. This includes outpatient consultations, and specialist activities as agreed with other members of the department. The consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the department. Clinic bookings rules will be in line with British Association of Dermatologists guidelines. Treatment of patients may be arranged in the inpatient or outpatient unit, and the consultant will be responsible for supervising this treatment.
