Overview

Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering fostering, education, residential, mental health and family services, caring for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year. We are a team and we care about each other, committed to making a change in the lives of the young people and service users in our care.

We are recruiting for a Waking Night Support Worker to join our residential children’s home based in Portchester. The home on Portchester Road can accommodate up to 5 children aged between 12 and 18. The role focuses on providing an enriching and positive environment to prepare and support children for transition into adulthood, within a structured, homely and nurturing setting.


Responsibilities

* Building respectful, impactful relationships: Proactively maintaining safe and respectful relationships with children through effective support, guidance and care, ensuring professional boundaries in line with best practice.
* Planning and preparation: Coordinating and planning shifts nightly to prioritise safeguarding, and effectively managing a range of demands and changes.
* Keeping vulnerable children and young people Safe: Managing child protection issues through effective reporting in line with home policies and procedures, in partnership with the senior leadership team and relevant external agencies.
* Administrative duties: Completing nightly tasks to support the smooth running of the home, including handovers, case recording, and risk assessments with accurate documentation.
* Housekeeping and environment: Contributing to housekeeping and administration duties to maintain a welcoming and homely environment for the children.
* Dynamic working: Working independently while being part of a wider, supportive team with opportunities for development.
* Trauma-informed practice: Using RiiSE training to deliver trauma-informed responses, including appropriate therapeutic approaches and, where appropriate, physical interventions during crises.

Note: This role requires lone working, but will be supported by another staff member on a sleep-in basis. The work pattern is 10 hours per night from 22:00 to 08:00 on a rolling rota including weekends.


Qualifications and requirements

* All candidates must have a full driving license and access to a car.
* Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS); the cost will be met by Fair Ways.
* Desirable but not essential: a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or equivalent.
* Previous experience working with children and/or young people is advantageous.
