Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the team at HMP Garth, a high security Category B male prison located in Leyland. HMP Garth has capacity of around 800 and houses men serving long‑term and indeterminate sentences.
Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care.
Hours: Part‑time, 30 hours per week. Flexible days between Monday and Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.
Salary: £29,264 – £33,510 FTE, dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job
* Deliver outstanding care to psychosocial patients, seeking out, listening to, and acting on their feedback to ensure personalised and tailored care.
* Manage a caseload of around 40 patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, and trauma.
* Deliver group sessions on drug use, relapse prevention, overdose awareness, and harm reduction.
* Provide psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments.
* Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
* Prepare patients for release and transfer, ensuring continuity of care.
* Deliver 1‑to‑1 care as well as group sessions.

Qualifications and Person Specification
* Experience within substance misuse, ideally in a prison or secure environment, and preferably in a Recovery Worker/Practitioner role.
* Experience working within the substance misuse multi‑disciplinary framework, including housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways.
* Flexible approach, excellent communication skills, non‑judgemental and compassionate attitude.
