We're looking for a hands-on Nights Assistant Manager to join our busy bakery in Bakewell. This is a practical, shop-floor-based role where you'll work alongside the team to ensure our freshly baked bread and cakes are packed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
You won't just be supervising from the sidelines — you'll be actively involved in the packing operation, leading by example and stepping in wherever needed to keep the shift running smoothly and on schedule.
The role is five nights a week on a rota basis to include Sundays. You will not work a Saturday night.
Key Responsibilities
* Work directly on the packing line alongside the team each night.
* Support and supervise the night shift packing team, motivating and guiding them through the shift.
* Ensure bread and cakes are packed accurately and ready for dispatch on time.
* Operate and oversee flow wrap and other packing machinery confidently and safely.
* Troubleshoot machinery or process issues quickly to minimise downtime.
* Take responsibility for shift performance in the absence of the senior manager.
* Maintain strict health, safety, and hygiene standards at all times.
* Monitor quality control to ensure products meet company standards.
* Assist with training new team members and developing existing staff.
* Step in wherever needed — whether operating machinery, organising workflow, or resolving issues on the floor.
About You
* Proven experience in a packing, production, or food manufacturing environment (bakery experience highly desirable).
* Confident operating flow wrap or similar packing machinery (preferable but not essential as training will be provided).
* A natural leader who leads by example and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
* Able to work independently and make sound decisions during night shifts.
* Calm under pressure and capable of solving problems quickly.
* Organised, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
