Our Shrewsbury-based client has a vacancy for a Financial Controller on a permanent basis. As Financial Controller, you will oversee the preparation of all accounts up to management accounts level, while also taking on responsibilities typically associated with Management Accountant and Finance Analyst roles. This hands-on position will cover both the day-to-day financial operations and strategic financial planning, with additional exposure to commercial areas of the business.
You will be responsible for:
1. Preparing monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
2. Overseeing all accounting processes, from data entry through to final review, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
3. Providing financial insights and analysis to support decision-making at the senior management level.
4. Overseeing financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning to support the business’s growth.
5. Managing VAT returns, payroll, statutory accounts preparation, and assisting with year-end audits.
6. Mentoring and leading a junior finance team member to ensure efficient financial operations.
7. Handling commercial responsibilities, including negotiating and agreeing terms of business with suppliers and clients.
8. Managing commercial and credit insurance policies to protect the business’s financial interests.
9. Assisting with Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) and other documentation for new business opportunities.
10. Continuously improving financial systems and processes to keep pace with business growth.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will need to have experience in a similar role and be qualified or part-qualified in ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent). You will have demonstrated experience in preparing management accounts, financial forecasting, and providing insights to senior management. Experience in managing commercial aspects, such as negotiating terms of business, handling credit insurance, and PQQ submissions, is essential. Proficiency in SAGE 50, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Advanced Excel) is required.
