Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – The Role
* Leading concept and detailed design of complex mechanical systems
* Performing hand calculations and stress analysis
* Taking ownership of full project delivery, not just isolated design packages
* Supporting manufacture, assembly, and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
* Producing and reviewing technical documentation
* Acting as a technical point of contact for clients
* Mentoring and supporting junior engineers within the team
* Conducting peer reviews and contributing to engineering standards
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – The Person
* ~5+ years' experience in mechanical design within subsea, marine, or oil & gas
* Proven experience delivering full lifecycle projects (concept → manufacture)
* Strong capability in hand calculations and stress analysis
* Experience designing fabricated structures and mechanical systems
* Background in companies such as subsea OEMs or specialist engineering firms
* CAD experience (Inventor ideal, SolidWorks also suitable)
* Strong communication skills and ability to work closely within a small team
* A proactive, hands‑on approach with a willingness to take ownership
Located in Tyne & Wear, this role would be commutable from Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Gateshead, Jarrow, Hebburn, Washington, Chester-le-Street, Blyth, Cramlington, Seaham North Shields, South Shields, Morpeth, Peterlee and surrounding areas.
