6 Month Fixed Term - Potential to move Permanent
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to join a fast-paced and growing manufacturing and distribution operation on a 6 month contract with a view of becoming permanent.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a national fleet operation, ensuring efficient deliveries across the UK while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, safety, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving operational excellence, leading transport teams, improving fleet efficiency, and supporting continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day operation of a mixed fleet of articulated HGVs and light commercial vehicles
* Plan and coordinate nationwide delivery schedules and collection routes to maximise fleet utilisation
* Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, tachograph legislation, and Working Time Directive rules
* Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator Licence
* Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting processes
* Monitor driver performance, driver hours, and fleet compliance standards
* Lead and support drivers and loading teams through effective management, coaching, and development
* Coordinate closely with warehouse, production, and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations
* Manage transport costs, fuel usage, and operational efficiencies
* Investigate incidents, delays, and compliance issues while implementing corrective actions
* Promote a strong health and safety culture across all transport activities
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer service
Requirements
* CPC in Road Haulage (National or International)
* Proven experience within a Transport Manager or similar fleet management role
* Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
* Experience managing mixed fleets and transport operations
* Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* A proactive and hands‑on management style
* Strong problem‑solving abilities and the ability to perform well under pressure
