Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and teach engaging lessons in English Language and English Literature at Key Stage 4.
* Use a variety of teaching strategies and digital media to meet diverse learners’ needs.
* Assess, record and report pupils’ progress and attainment, contributing to class and school assessment programmes.
* Promote pupils’ wellbeing, provide advice and guidance on educational and career matters.
* Communicate with parents and external partners; coordinate co‑operation with colleagues, governors and community stakeholders.
* Attend and support school assemblies, meetings, curriculum development and staff development activities.
* Maintain discipline and ensure health and safety of pupils during school hours and authorised school activities.
* Comply with safeguarding, child protection, SEND and data protection policies.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Teaching qualification recognised for grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Honours degree (2:2 or higher) in an English‑related field.
* Minimum of one year’s experience teaching English Language and Literature at Key Stage 4 (including teaching practice).
* Experience using digital technology to enhance learning.
* Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before appointment.
Additional Essential Criteria (Interview Stage)
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding, child protection policy and the SEND Code of Practice.
* Understanding of assessment methods and information technology systems in education.
* Effective classroom management and teaching skills that inspire and challenge pupils.
* Ability to work collaboratively, support inclusive environments and maintain positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and community members.
* Evidence of alignment with the school’s values and ethos.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Honours degree 2:1 or higher.
* Minimum of three years’ experience teaching English Language and Literature to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
* Minimum of two years’ experience teaching AS and A2 level English.
* Experience teaching KS3 drama and contributing to extracurricular life (music, sport or drama).
* Experience monitoring pupil progress, target setting and intervention.
Other Requirements
* Pre‑employment disclosure and background check; applicant will be expected to fund an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.
* Availability for the full school term (maximum 190 teaching days per year; 1,265 hours of work, excluding off‑site travel).
