We are looking to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician who is highly experienced in caring for children undergoing Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT), including those with Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI). This substantive post is part of Newcastle's comprehensive service for children undergoing HSCT for IEI, housed in one of only two supra-regional centres in the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for the direct clinical care of patients admitted to our centre, before, during and after transplant, and for managing long‑term follow‑up clinics of children discharged post‑HSCT. Job responsibilities
Clinical
Act as the Consultant responsible for the day‑to‑day working of the HSCT Unit, supervising resident doctors and nurse specialists. Participate in examination and assessment of children daily, organise investigations and liaise with microbiology, haematology, blood transfusion, pathology, radiology, genetics, cytogenetics and immunology. Lead recognition and treatment of HSCT complications and oversee the multidisciplinary team to create and develop systems of care for children. Plan treatment including donor coordination, develop and implement HSCT protocols according to European guidelines, manage the follow‑up programme, and update protocols for all aspects of care. Contribute to the on‑call rota, including weekends.
Administrative
Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and the running of the Department of Paediatric Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases. Co‑operate with the Head of Department and clinical director, and participate in financial management, ensuring high‑quality care and efficient use of resources.
Research
Play a lead role in developing clinical research, presenting at national and international meetings, publishing findings and securing funding. Support participation in national and international studies, pursue opportunities to spearhead cross‑cutting research and, where appropriate, obtain an honorary position at Newcastle University.
Teaching
Supervise specialist registrars and doctors, contribute to teaching for all levels of paediatric trainees and visiting doctors, support postgraduate trainee supervision, and participate in national training events.
Managerial & Governance
Contribute to clinical governance, multidisciplinary audit and risk management, participate in the organisation and running of the HSCT Unit, and work towards mandatory JACIE accreditation. Assist in preparing for inspections and maintain clinical governance policies, including infection prevention and control, and audit activities.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
 * MRCPCH or international equivalent
 * Full GMC registration
 * Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months of AAC)
 * Special skills and training in paediatric HSCT
 * Higher degree (desirable)
 * Accreditation on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics with training in immunology, infectious diseases or haematology/oncology (desirable)
Clinical Experience
 * Substantial experience in management of children undergoing HSCT (minimum 6 months in an attending role at a tertiary centre)
 * Experience caring for children with IEI (desirable)
 * Experience in donor selection, medical and HTA assessment, performance of bone marrow harvests (desirable)
 * Experience with new HSCT innovations such as extracorporeal photopheresis, TCR alpha/beta‑depleted haploidentical transplantation, or novel cellular/gene therapy (desirable)
Management and Administration Experience
 * Team working, economic use of resources, commitment to professional and teaching responsibilities (essential)
 * Knowledge of clinical governance, ability to author and review guidelines (essential)
