Overview
As part of the transnational Virtual Product Engineering team of the Central Research & Technology (R&T) organisation in the UK, the role is based at the Airbus Aerospace Integrated Research and Test Centre in Filton, Bristol. We operate with agile engineering principles and place a strong value on innovation. The team is multinational, with opportunities to interact with colleagues in France and Germany. The focus is on the development of future capabilities to support Multidisciplinary Design & Optimisation through Modelling & Simulation. Placements provide insight into potential career paths within Airbus and offer practical industry experience to enhance future studies and career prospects.
Responsibilities
* Support the development of new approaches to enable rapid exploration of design options for future aircraft products.
* Utilise aerodynamics, structures and systems simulation methods to describe the key disciplinary characteristics of an engineering problem.
* Fuse data to enable Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimisation to identify the best engineering solution for a given objective.
* Investigate techniques such as AI / Machine Learning, Agent Based Modelling and potentially Quantum Computing to enable rapid understanding and exploration of the aircraft design space, with potential to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact of air transport.
* At the end of the placement, support the demonstration of these approaches on an aircraft and air transport system related engineering problem.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Studying towards a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent.
* A passion for Aerospace and one or more related engineering disciplines.
* Experience in computer programming and a willingness to learn and apply the Python programming language and its common packages to problems in engineering modelling, simulation, optimisation and machine learning.
* An ability to summarise findings in technical reports.
* A good team player with excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
* Fluency in English.
* SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role. This role requires awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Benefits & Salary
Salary: £23,400; 35 hours per week; Flexible working hours; Hybrid working; Half day Fridays; 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
