About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead DevOps Engineer to join their expanding digital consultancy team. This key position plays a pivotal role in delivering high-value solutions and promoting automation for both public and private sector engagements.
As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance internally and to clients. You will be responsible for leading technical deliverables, maintaining strong client relationships, and mentoring team members.
This role offers the opportunity to influence the design and implementation of secure, scalable systems by applying innovative DevOps practices and leveraging modern technologies.
Please note: The advertised salary reflects the entry level of the banding for this position, with room for future progression.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and consultation within the engineering team and to external clients.
* Advocate for infrastructure-as-code and automation with a platform-agnostic mindset.
* Engage in hands-on development across multiple platforms, languages, and frameworks.
* Maintain and promote best practices in cloud architecture, CI/CD, testing, and system support.
* Share knowledge and contribute to internal communities of practice.
* Assist in recruitment and professional development of engineering talent.
* Contribute to strategic business development including technical bid writing.
* Represent the engineering community at external events (e.g. blogs, seminars, conferences).
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, eagerness to learn, and a passion for innovation. Key experience includes:
* Proficiency with Azure services and Azure DevOps.
* Strong expertise in GitLab CI/CD pipelines and debugging complex builds.
* Experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
* Deep knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
* Advanced Linux skills (RHEL and Alpine), including GitLab Runner management.
* Integration of automated testing tools (e.g., PyTest, Selenium) within CI/CD pipelines.
* Proficiency with Docker and monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
* Knowledge of cloud-based security practices (TLS encryption, secret management).
* Experience with GitLab API for automation and reporting.
* Familiarity with compliance and security planning processes.
* Desirable: Apache Tomcat, SIP, RTF, or telephony experience.

Work Locations
While headquartered in Leeds, the role is open to candidates across the UK with flexibility to work from various office locations (including Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Bristol), client sites, or remotely. A relocation support package of up to £8,000 is available if required.
