About the role
In this role you will be responsible for driving the profitable growth within our strategic sectors. You will be expected to trade and write all lines of business including Professional Indemnity, MLP, Cyber, Property and Casualty to facilitate a package policy offering – with your focus ideally being within Professional Indemnity.
You will join an established and high performing team and bring your drive to contribute to our growth aspirations whilst driving your own relationships (internal & external) and pipeline.
You will also have the opportunity to drive Hiscox appetite across our strategic sectors, including the proposition, the underwriting and the pricing. It is therefore essential that you are technically astute, have strong relationship management skills and are driven by an exceptional service ethic.
What you’ll be doing
1. Underwriting larger, more complex commercial cases consistently and profitably
2. Leading the setting and execution of the local underwriting strategy for your specialist area in conjunction with the Regional Manager and Regional Underwriting Manager
3. Influencing the UK Product Heads on underwriting appetite and strategy
4. Leading underwriting and trading visits to larger clients and prospects
5. Ensuring that the new business target for the region is achieved
6. Developing close, effective relationships with brokers to develop new opportunities to significantly contribute to the team new business targets
7. Increasing submission & conversion numbers through client prospecting
8. Building product specific knowledge and sales skills amongst underwriters
9. Knowledge of the professional indemnity line of business and appetite
10. Understanding of the underwriting lifecycle including policy wordings, pricing & claims
11. Understanding of pricing a risk and the factors that can affect pricing
12. Good knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, brokers and factors that can affect the market including soft/hard markets

14. A strong track record in making sound underwriting decisions, driving top and bottom-line growth
15. A deep understanding of the professional indemnity line of business
16. Strong communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills with demonstrable ability to effectively influence key stakeholders
17. Demonstrates a hunger for winning business
18. Able to make intelligent and innovative business decisions
19. An appreciation and understanding of legal and regulatory guidelines
20. Ideally ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA
