Akaroa – the jewel in the crown of Canterbury and a huge part of the history of the province with settlement by Māori, French and British immigrants over the last 200 years. Located right in the middle of this gorgeous seaside town is Akaroa Area School, a school that became one of New Zealand’s fabulous area schools in 2007.
Offering education in an amazing environment, the school currently has a roll of 118 with 57 students enrolled in Y1–8 and 61 in Y9–13. The same number is expected to start 2026 with a stable roll predicted for the future. Staffed at 15.44 FTTE, 18 full and part-time dedicated teachers are employed with a wonderful team filling a variety of roles to support staff and students.
