More than you expected

The UK member firms of Grant Thornton are part of a global network of independent audit, tax, and advisory firms, made up of over 76,000 professionals in more than 150 countries. We are a team of independent thinkers who prioritize quality, inclusion, and integrity. Worldwide, we aim to deliver a different, better experience to our clients—personal, proactive, and agile. That's Grant Thornton.

Job Description:

Our teams help individuals, businesses, and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals every day.

Grant Thornton’s well-established UK Restructuring, Pensions, and Debt Advisory team (RPDA) handles complex advisory assignments and insolvency appointments. RPDA has advised on high-profile restructuring cases (including Restructuring Plans) and insolvency appointments both in the UK and internationally, involving clients like Greensill, Buckingham Group, BrightHouse, Royale Resorts, and Wonga. The team also provides confidential advice to global financial institutions on restructuring and dispute-related assignments, working across sectors such as real estate, construction, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, automotive, consumer finance, and regulated industries. The work environment is dynamic, with peak periods during transaction progress, offering varied experience. Being part of a national team based in London provides opportunities to work across the UK and pursue further career development, including optional insolvency qualifications like CPI and JIEB.

We support flexible working arrangements, including reduced hours and job shares, to help balance your work and personal life.

A look into the role:

As an Assistant Manager in the team, you will:

* Begin to understand market trends and current developments, including work givers and competitors.
* Provide recommendations during negotiations and sales pitches, including origination activities.
* Contribute to internal and external presentations for the department and the firm.
* Build and maintain your own internal and external network.
* Participate in internal and external events related to training, marketing, and assignments to promote recovery services.
* Apply technical knowledge appropriately to client situations, demonstrating skill and speed in problem-solving.
* Make clear, quick recommendations to managers regarding client issues, offering a range of options and narrowing down choices.
* Balance the need for detailed information with the client's need for quick decisions and recommendations.
* Manage team members with people management responsibilities, including coaching, performance management, providing feedback, and supporting their development.

Knowing you’re right for us:

Joining as an Assistant Manager, the minimum criteria you'll need are:

* To be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA).
* Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowing we’re right for you:

At Grant Thornton, we embrace diversity and foster an inclusive culture that values differences and respects colleagues. We believe this helps our people perform at their best and realize their potential. Our open culture means you'll interact with leaders who are interested in you and what you bring to the firm. We value your unique qualities and encourage you to bring your whole self to work and pursue your passions inside and outside of work.

Beyond the job:

We recognize that life is more than work. We offer flexible working options to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. The impact you make here extends beyond your daily tasks—through secondments, charity fundraising, supporting entrepreneurs in developing countries, and more. Our drive to do the right thing is rooted in our values: purposefully driven, actively curious, and candid but kind.

We seek individuals eager to contribute, innovate, and exceed expectations—people who want to do what’s right for the firm, clients, colleagues, and themselves. That’s how it should be.
