Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Producibility Engineer will be responsible for the manufacturability and producibility of new designs, as well as leading improvements for existing designs. The successful candidate will be a technical authority capable of assessing and addressing potential non-conformities. Collaboration with disciplines such as Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain is essential to implement design and manufacturing improvements, enhance product quality, and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Design for Manufacturing: Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and External Supply Chain teams to meet cost, delivery, and safety targets.
2. Issue Resolution: Drive rapid resolution of issues during industrialization and production, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve performance and eliminate defects.
3. Manufacturing Technical Packages: Ensure delivery of robust manufacturing methods and technical documentation to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
4. Continuous Improvement: Support a High Performance Culture by initiating and championing continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Cost Control: Drive cost reductions through challenging manufacturing methods across the product family.
6. Concessions and Quality Issues: Assess and address internal/external concessions, permits, and quality issues promptly.
7. Process Deployment: Implement DAR and PCB processes, including minor design modifications.
8. Technical Authority: Ensure design intent and specifications are achieved.
9. Lessons Learned: Incorporate lessons learned into design and manufacturing during product introduction and ongoing production.
10. Production Support: Provide engineering support for day-to-day manufacturing activities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Engineering Degree or equivalent experience in engineering management or operations.
* Experience as a Designer or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace, automotive, or industrial sectors, familiar with Quality, Industrialization, and Operations processes.
* Experience working with sheet metal parts, castings, complex machined parts, and assemblies. Experience with welded and brazed fabrications is desirable.
* Strong technical knowledge and a solid design engineering background.
* Proficiency in CAD (preferably NX) and PLM (Teamcenter).
* Experience in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and lean techniques.
* Experience with heat exchangers and pipework assemblies is desirable.
* Excellent analytical and communication skills.
* Design for X experience (cost, manufacture, maintenance, build).
* Effective technical and professional leadership skills.
* Track record of delivering small projects focused on cost, delivery, and quality improvements.
* Proven ability to lead change quickly across the business.
* Practical experience in a production or supply chain environment in a design or manufacturing capacity.
* Experience with New Product Introduction, Industrialization, and Production processes.
