Are you a Nurse and are looking for a newchallenge, then the exciting and ever-growing speciality of InterventionalRadiology may be just for you? This training role will suit you whether youhave previous experience in theatre or just starting out in your career andinterested in a fast-paced department. We are looking for a highly motivatedand enthusiastic individual to join our team. The team is looking forcandidates who are committed to patient centred and evidence-based care of thehighest standard, to work within the interventional radiology department hereat Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. You will rotate around 3 sites (LGI,SJUH and Bexley Wing) and enhance your knowledge of radiology-based proceduresas an interventional radiology nurse. This involves the care of the consciouspatients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic and sometimes complexmulti-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation of tumours/haemorrhage,angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and acuteurological and vascular procedures and stroke thrombectomy. This post is beingadvertised as B6 annex 21. It is aimed but not exclusive to candidatescurrently working at Band 5 who are ready to develop specialist nursing skillsassociated with interventional radiology theatres and looking for a progressiverole to a band 6 position. All candidates will be considered based on theirexperience, knowledge and skills.


Main duties of the job

Thistraining role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills, especiallyin scrubbing to assist with theatre procedures. You'll be involved inperioperative patient care, including administering IV

medication and post-operative care such as sheathremoval. The role requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team,including consultants, radiographers, and other healthcare professionals. A newradiology development pathway is available to support your growth, helping yougain the competencies needed for the Band 6 Specialist Peri-OperativePractitioner role, with training lasting up to 24 months. As you progress,youll be able to work on call across both sites. This role is ideal for thosepursuing a career in radiology theatres, offering the chance to gain essentialcompetencies under the guidance of experienced colleagues. You'll buildspecialist knowledge, preparing you for a Senior Peri-Operative Practitionerrole. You'll deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient use ofresources. After completing the training, you will lead a sub-specialty withinInterventional Radiology, such as neurology, tissue viability, or infectioncontrol. You'll work with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient care,theatre performance, and quality, while also contributing to the evaluation ofpre- and post-operative care. Regular updates with the senior nursing team arealso included in the role.

Job responsibilities

As an experienced practitioner the jobholderwill co-ordinate activities within the peri-operative environment ensuringeffective communication is maintained at all times, providing support toqualified and unqualified staff within the department. He/she will play a keyrole in the assessment of patient care needs and the development,implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will play anessential role assisting deputy/team leader in leading and teaching theperi-operative teams throughout the 24 hour period. The jobholder will act as arole model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing theperi-operative team and ensuring effective management of the department in theabsence of the deputy/team Leaders. Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or demonstrable teaching /assessing evidence
* Relevant documented evidence of role competencies detailed within the SPOP development plan (Please see addendum) Alternatively, under Annex 21 working towards (up to a maximum of 2 years) relevant course completion


Skills & behaviours

* Teaching and assessing skills
* Understanding of research based practice research conscious
* Team player
* Ability to act professionally at all times
* Understanding of the process of change
* Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy


Experience

* Significant post registration Peri-operative or equivalent experience at Advanced within relevant specialty
* Insight into clinical speciality
* Standards of professional practice
* Broad based experience
* Experience of surgical specialty.
