Transportation Operation Center (TOC) - Job Description
TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control hub for 'Transportation Execution' across the Amazon Supply Chain network, supporting multiple regions including NA, India, and EU. It ensures timely and hassle-free pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FCs) and from FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, TOC intervenes to resolve issues and keeps stakeholders informed. Additionally, TOC monitors network trends, automates processes, and proposes changes to streamline operations, involving extensive data analysis.
Overall, TOC plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Amazon transportation, directly impacting Amazon’s ability to serve customers on time.
Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist
A Trans Ops Specialist facilitates communication between stakeholders (Carriers, Hubs, Warehouses) and resolves issues affecting customer experience and business continuity. The role covers two verticals: Inbound and Outbound operations.
* Inbound Operations: Manages Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight is picked up and delivered on time as scheduled. Addresses issues during the freight's lifecycle from pick-up to delivery.
* Outbound Operations: Manages FC/Carrier relationships, ensuring trucks leave the FC to meet delivery promises. Resolves issues during freight transit from FC to customer.
The ideal candidate should analyze data, identify trends, and make timely decisions to enhance customer experience. Strong communication skills, basic logistics understanding, process improvement mindset, and data management skills are essential.
Responsibilities
* Communicate with external customers (Carriers, Vendors) and internal teams (Retail, Finance, Support, FCs).
* Extract and analyze data using Excel, Access, SQL, or similar tools; perform ad hoc reporting.
* Develop and understand performance metrics to drive results.
* Define business and functional requirements for software systems used by TOC.
* Assess business impact of trends and make informed decisions.
* Escalate issues systematically and follow through on resolutions.
* Operate within tight deadlines to meet critical business needs.
* Communicate findings clearly in reports and reviews.
* Provide real-time customer support in a 24/7 environment.
Qualifications
Basic
* Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field (e.g., computer science, engineering, statistics).
* Experience with Excel.
Preferred
* Experience with SQL.
