SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools Location: Sheffield & Barnsley, South Yorkshire Contract: Full-time / Term-time only / Flexible Start Date: ASAP or January 2026 About the Role We are looking for a caring and motivated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our partner primary schools in Sheffield and Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning and reach their full potential. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of needs including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional or behavioural needs. You’ll work alongside class teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with identified SEN or EHCPs. Assist teachers in planning and adapting activities to meet individual learning needs. Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence in the classroom. Help monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents. Foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported. Requirements Previous experience working with children in an educational or SEN support role (school, nursery, or care setting). Understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, or communication needs. A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience). A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children. An Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one).
