Job Purpose
The role is responsible for the efficient and safe day to day operation of the engineering warehouse, ensuring accurate inventory control of technical components, timely dispatch and delivery of materials and consistently high standards of safety, organisation and service support to engineering operations.
The role provides hands on leadership to a small warehouse team of three, allocating workloads, supporting skills development and training and maintaining operational performance in line with engineering and logistics processes and procedures.
Working closely with the Operations Manager, the Stores Manager ensures continuity of engineering warehouse operations during their absence and takes full ownership of site activities. This includes stock control of engineering parts and equipment, coordination of deliveries to support project timelines and strict compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Oversee the receipt, storage, picking and dispatch of goods to ensure accurate stock control
Carry out regular stock checks and investigate any discrepancies
Store stock safely, efficiently and in line with warehouse procedures
Support communication with suppliers and internal teams to ensure stock is received on time and available when needed
Keep the warehouse clean, organised and compliant with health and safety standards
Supervise warehouse staff, delivery drivers and store personnel during shifts
Assign daily tasks and workloads to support smooth operations
Provide training, guidance and ongoing support to team members
Monitor staff performance
Encourage a positive, safe and productive work environment
Help coordinate daily delivery schedules to meet customer and business needs
Monitor driver performance and ensure compliance with safety and company standards
Resolve delivery issues such as delays, errors or customer concerns
Ensure vehicles are loaded safely, correctly and efficiently
Carry out basic vehicle and equipment checks and report any issues promptly
Identify ways to improve operations and suggest practical solutions
Maintain accurate operational records and reports (stock, deliveries, staffing)
Ensure compliance with health, safety and legal requirements across warehouse and delivery operations
Skills Required
Experience in warehouse, stores, logistics or engineering operations
Strong organisational and problem solving skills
Ability to lead and supervise teams effectively
Good communication skills with staff, customers and internal stakeholders
Understanding of inventory control and delivery operations
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement
