SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Liverpool
Contract: Full‑time, long‑term (with potential for permanent opportunities)

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated, resilient, and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils across a range of secondary schools in Liverpool. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, communication needs, and behavioural challenges.

You will support students aged 11–16, working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEND in secondary classrooms.
Assist in adapting lesson materials to help students access the curriculum effectively.
Support pupils’ emotional regulation, social development, and communication skills.
Use strategies such as modelling, scaffolding, visual prompts, and de‑escalation techniques.
Work in collaboration with subject teachers and SENCOs to track progress and provide feedback.
Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence.
Support pupils with behavioural needs using consistent, calm, and restorative approaches.
Promote inclusion and independence, ensuring all pupils feel valued and supported.
Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.

Requirements

Experience supporting young people, ideally in a school, youth work, care, or SEN setting.
Understanding of SEND and experience with conditions such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with secondary‑age pupils.
Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., SEN, psychology, youth work) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
