Its Marine Energies Business Unit focuses on offshore wind farms, tidal developers, offshore service vessels, and offshore floating platforms. We emphasise engineering-led design and problem solving. Core service areas include hydrodynamic analysis, floating system design, back-deck systems design, temporary steelwork design, cutting edge marine product development and specialist consultancy. The purpose of the naval architect position is to deliver naval architecture consultancy services for our clients, with a focus on dynamic system analysis (hull, moorings and cables) and vessel deck engineering/ modifications.
Key Responsibilities
* Working always with due regard to safety;
* Applying naval architecture and engineering methods as directed by line or project management;
* Analysing engineering systems, resolving problems and developing designs in a fast-paced and dynamic multi-tasking environment;
* Executing duties in compliance with applicable legislation, codes, standards, and Apollo's quality control and administration procedures;
* Acting as project delivery manager/ engineer where directed, managing the work of project teams and self to deliver work on time, on budget and to a suitable quality standard.
* Reporting to and meeting clients and other interested parties as required;
* Supporting the business development teams in sales presentations, meetings, events, proposals and tendering.
* Providing mentoring and continual professional development to support less experienced engineers.
* Any other delegated content as reasonably instructed by the line manager
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
* Naval architecture, marine technology or a relevant engineering degree to honours level.
* Engineering design and analysis skills applied to hull and marine systems in use in the offshore wind, marine energy and marine construction sectors.
* Experienced with numerical engineering analysis tools e.g. Finite Element Analysis Software, Stability Software, Hydrodynamics and Flexibles.
* Aptitude for the practical application of engineering to offshore vessels and systems.
Desirable:
* OrcaFlex user experience.
* Vessel deck engineering, seafastening, and structural design experience.
* Aiming for chartered engineer (or comparable status) with RINA, IMarEST or equivalent.
* Understanding of the integrity management methods applied to marine systems.
* Knowledge of other marine sectors including floating production.
* Knowledge of Classification and Marine Warranty processes.
* Electrical engineering skills and experience
