Role Overview
The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting a Band 6 Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) for the Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. The role is based at New Cross Hospital with required travel across Cannock Chase Hospital and The Dudley Group Hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide nurse‑led clinics, including patient assessment and delivery of information before endoscopic or radiological investigations.
* Support patients throughout the screening pathway, ensuring informed consent and safety during endoscopies.
* Enter and manage daily data into the national screening database using the Open Exeter IT system.
* Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across multiple trusts and convey complex or sensitive information to patients and colleagues.
* Travel between hospital sites to deliver equitable and timely services.
* Participate in health‑promotion activities to improve screening access within the catchment area.
* Mentor and support staff and students on screening procedures and education.
* Coordinate daily service activities in the absence of the Lead SSP and manage own caseload and time.
* Promote professional development by sharing teaching responsibilities with hospital and community staff.
* Contribute to performance improvement projects for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Registered Nurse, Band 6 level, from an NHS trust.
* Good information‑technology skills and experience entering data into screening systems.
* Full driving licence with access to a car and willingness to travel between sites.
* Commitment to complete the Specialist Screening Practitioner course within 12 months of appointment (run by Liverpool John Moore’s University or Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust).
* Strong communication skills, able to break significant news and provide sensitive information.
* Flexibility, independence, and willingness to work autonomously as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
