Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will at times deputise for the Named Nurse, providing thesuccessful candidate with the opportunity to contribute to multidisciplinaryand multi-agency safeguarding children activities.

2.JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
Thepost supports the operational delivery of child protection within a clinicalgovernance framework throughout the trust and includes the general raising ofawareness of child protection practice throughout childrens and adultservices. They will work with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and theNamed Midwife to lead the development of safeguarding, reflecting the ClinicalService Units, Chief Nurse and Safeguarding business plans. The post holderwill provide a crucial link between LTHT staff and the Safeguarding Team,providing a clinical lead and role model by delivering high quality care as anexperienced practitioner. The post holder will work in partnership with otherstatutory, voluntary and healthcare agencies. The post holder will be expectedto work proactively, autonomously, and act in such a way as to provide asuitable and professional role model for others.
TheNamed Nurse for Safeguarding Children and the Named Midwife lead theco-ordination of LTHT Safeguarding Children services with the SafeguardingChildren and Midwifery Team, raising awareness of essential child protectionand safeguarding practice through primary, secondary and tertiary levels ofprevention.
TheSafeguarding Children Advisor will:
Seek advice, support and inform theNamed Nurse when poor practice has been identified or where standards cannot bemaintained.
Commit to a quality service in anenvironment of financial constraints
Enable the development of anenvironment which encourages staff members to be effective and proactive in thefield of child protection and safeguarding
Contribute at an interagency leveland demonstrate a commitment to the principles outlined in Working Together toSafeguard Children (2026), and the Children Act (1989/2004).

Thepost holder will;
Clinical
Assess, plan, implement and evaluatecare and interventions using advanced safeguarding knowledge and associatedsafeguarding legal frameworks.
Review specific child protection andother safeguarding plans for pre-birth, new-born infant, children and youngpeople within midwifery, neonatal, children and adult services.
Refer as appropriate to other membersof the multi-disciplinary/agency teams where safeguarding or other mattersrequire.
Support and advise staff involved inthe child protection process, including attendance at strategy, childprotection and other safeguarding professional meetings.
Set, monitor and seek to continuouslyimprove standards in quality of child protection and safeguarding.
Maintain a safe working environment.
Supervise and maintain accuraterecords in line with LTHT policies and the Data Protection Act (2018).
Provide LTHT employees, volunteers,students, apprentices etc with the knowledge and skills to ensure the safe andappropriate reporting /management of children identified at risk of abuse,neglect or who have been abused or neglected, as well as children in need.
Ensure the safe use and efficientmanagement of equipment and supplies
Support patients and their familiesensuring they receive required information to enable them to participate ontheir care delivery.
Assist and support the Named Nurse todevelop and implement policy, protocols and guidance specific to childprotection and safeguarding.
Act in accordance with theirregulators professional code or standards of practice.
Liaise with Community Services toensure seamless provision of care delivery.
Contribute to the development ofeffective communication strategies regarding child protection and safeguardingbetween LTHT and other agencies or departments.
Support staff in the preparation oflegal proceedings and reports.
Support the Named Nurse and NamedMidwife in the contribution of child safeguarding practice reviews, domesticabuse death reviews, and other serious incidents
