EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist to provide medical leadership for the Tower Ward in Clacton – a 14-bed dementia ward that benefits from strong resident doctor, SAS support and a comprehensive MDT. The post will also incorporate a memory clinic session with MDT discussion for the Clacton area based at Landermere Centre in Clacton.

Responsibilities
* Work in accordance with the New Ways of Working initiative for Consultants.
* Attend regular team meetings (MDT meetings, formulation meetings) to discuss clinical issues with care coordinators, inpatient doctors and other statutory agencies.
* Work closely with other consultant colleagues to ensure a smooth patient journey.
* Provide clinical leadership and liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists and other specialists, both statutory and non‑statutory agencies, as relevant to patient care.
* Commit to a multidisciplinary approach to care.
* Use evidence-based interventions at all times.
* Offer a consistent, timely response to referrers/service users, regardless of referral origin.
* Provide accurate diagnosis and timely interventions to enable intensive treatment for patients with chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services, in line with the recovery model.
* Attend Mental Health Act assessments as requested for relevant patients.
* Act as the Responsible Clinician for inpatients, including attending tribunals when necessary.
* Participate in the development and maintenance of care programmes for patients.
* Supervise junior and middle‑grade doctors in the team.
* Participate in teaching programmes of the multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to the collection of clinical information to support service development and audit.
* Work with consultant colleagues to provide appropriate cover for daytime (9 am-5 pm, working days) and for periods of annual, study or special leave.
* Participate in the on-call Consultant rota primarily for advice; Consultants are on the 3rd tier of on-call.
* Participate in clinical governance and teaching activities.
* Contribute to day-to-day management and overall service development agenda through involvement with managerial and clinical colleagues.
* Undergo annual appraisal and fulfil CPD requirements to meet GMC revalidation criteria.
* Agree a job plan with the Clinical Director.
* Attend Trust-wide Medical Staffing Committee and other management forums.

Qualifications
* Full GMC registration.
* Approved as a Consultant on the Specialist Register.
* Holding an appropriate CCT or equivalent; or within six months of obtaining the CCT on the application date.
* Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and proficiency in applying it to patient care.
* Knowledge and experience of the Mental Health Act; ability to act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients and attend related tribunals.
